Joel is a singer, guitarist and teacher. He teaches acoustic, electric and bass guitars, as well as vocals!
It was inevitable that being born into a family with two dogs named after blues
musicians that Joel would go on to develop a lifelong love and fascination with
music in all its forms.
Coming from a musical family steeped in the Northern folk tradition, he has
been singing and playing since he was big enough to hold an instrument, and is
now an international session musician, performer, and teacher specialising in
bass guitar, double bass, electric and acoustic guitar, and vocals.
After graduating from the prestigious Institute of Contemporary Music
Performance where he was a scholarship student, Joel’s enthusiasm, expertise,
and eminently personable demeanour have led to him recording, gigging, and
touring with some of the finest bands and artists in the UK, such as the Mike
King Collective (Mark Ronson, Angelique Kidjo, Florence Welch) Leo Napier
(Gramatik, Raekwon, Griz), Kyan, The Robert J Hunter Band, and James
Numbere (The 1975, The London Community Gospel Choir). He has also
played at some of the UK’s most respected venues and festivals, such as
Downstairs at Ronnie Scott’s, British Summer Time in Hyde Park, 110 Above,
and Servant Jazz Quarters.
This varied real world experience enables Joel to tailor every lesson to suit the
student’s requirements, regardless of their skill level or goals. Similarly, his
training in musical theatre ensures that every lesson is dynamic and engaging.
