Nia Williams
Cello/Music Theory

Nia Williams is an experienced teacher and she has an encouraging, patient and supportive approach to lessons.

She easily adapts her teaching for all levels and ages, and lessons are catered to

what each individual wants to achieve through learning the cello. Nia is a hardworking and

committed teacher, who is passionate about helping students fulfil their potential.

 

Nia is a Welsh cellist born in 2000. She is currently a final year undergraduate student at

Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she studies with Rebecca Gilliver. She has

gladly accepted a scholarship offer to study her Master’s degree at the institution from

September 2023. At age 13, Nia gained entry to Chetham’s School of Music, where she

studied with Gillian Thoday for four years. Nia was principal cellist of the National Youth

Orchestra of Wales, as well as Chetham's Symphony Orchestra, Chetham’s Concert

Orchestra, Chetham’s String Orchestra, and Chetham's Sinfonia.

In September 2019 Nia performed in the Proms Youth Ensemble premiering Horror Vacui, a piece for solo violin and 68 strings by Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood in the BBC Proms. In November 2022 Nia performed Messiaen’s Turangalila Symphony as co-principal cellist of the Guildhall

Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Hall.

Additionally, Nia was selected to be part of a Guildhall collaboration with the London Mozart Players in October 2022. She has participated in masterclasses with Francis Gouton, Christoph Richter, Robert Cohen and Philip Higham.
